  1. There is such a thing as “less is more.” What you list, for the most part, is a lot of herbal supplements, which are not regulated by the FDA and there is no guarantee they do what they say they’ll do or may even be harmful for your particular situation.

Water soluble vitamins, like vit. C, will just get peed away if you take too much. Fat soluble vitamins (like E) can store up in the body and can be toxic. Too much beta carotene will make your skin yellow. Extra zinc is ok if you feel like you’re getting a cold, but otherwise is not necessary or particularly beneficial.

You’re best off taking a regular multivitamin (ONE), making sure you get plenty of calcium if you’re female and eat a varied, healthy diet. Unless your MD determines you are lacking a nutrient by a blood test anything more is, at best, a waste of money, or at worst, potentially harmful.

  2. Vitamins and mineral supplements aren’t drugs.

Supplements list the amount each tablet, etc provides. They also will list the RDA (recommended daily allowance). Keep in mind that these are minimum requirements to keep you from getting sick. For example, vitamin C. If you take the RDA of vitamin C, the average person will not get scurvy.

Nothing really stands out from what you listed, but I’m not familiar with SAMe. You might find it more economical to purchase a multivitamin and mineral supplement that is assured to be balanced though in the future. I personally take such a supplement. It is liquid and the sources are whole foods for best effects.

People have mentioned that you don’t need supplements if you eat well. The problem with that is that our food supply has become so deficient in nutrients, it’s almost impossible to not need to take some supplements if one wants a vibrant health.

    Hope this helps.

  3. You have to ensure that your vitamins are good quality supplements and not just toilet fertilizer mate ……….. vitamins aren’t just vitamins … they need to be easy for your body to assimilate or they’ll just go straight through you…… always ask for assistance from the resident naturopath when purchasing vitamins to ensure you are getting quality for your money …. take one of each supplement you have bought and put them into a glassfull of vinegar …… if they don’t begin to dissolve in 3 to 4 minutes trash them…… ;0)

Natural raw unprocessed un preserved garlic will always be far more potent that anything contained in a capsule…… experiment with the crushed raw variety …. start off mixing only a 1/5 or 1/4 of a clove through your salads, meat and vegies and slowly build up.

beta carotene is a fat soluble vitamin and is not safe to self dose with …….. eat more sweet potatoes, pumpkin, leafy and green vegies instead.

magnesium needs calcium to effectively perform …. calcium and magnesium work in a 2:1 ratio twice as much calcium as magnesium…….. again, eat more leafy and green vegies which are chock full of calcium and magnesium, folate, B2, fibre, water …. all in perfect balance.

b100 is a multi B complex???? if it contains all the B vitamins ie ~ B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, folic acid etc…. that’s good then as the Bcomplex works best as a whole group…… synergistically. Don’t supplement with any of the B complex individually but rather as a group unless a nutritionally oriented physician or fully qualified naturopath tells you to do so……. if you are vegetarian or lactose intolerant the B complex is a must to supplement with…… i’d keep the B complex.

You really are better off eating plainly and simply from God’s table …….. eat loads of leafy and green vegies like kale, chard, broccolli, spinach (go easy on the spinach as the oxalates block iron absorption), celery, buk choy …… eat fresh fruits …. some lean meats and fishes…….. eat some nuts and seeds too like almonds, brazil nuts, sunflower seeds ……. source your nutrients and vitamins whereever poss from the fresh food source …… it will always be the easiest for your body to assimilate and the most nutritious.
