A Powerful Flavonoid for Cholesterol Control

A study published in 2009 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has shown a spotlight on a powerful subsegment of flavonoids called anthocyanins. Medox USA (Miami Beach, FL) with developments from the Biolink Group has brought this powerful antioxidant to market in Medox.

Medox is a patented, clinical, well documented, professional food supplement developed from 16 years of research at a Norwegian university in addition to continuing research taking place in university hospitals and universities in Norway, EU, Asia and the US.

Medox is not based on a standard berry extract but on a high technological, patented process, developed by the Biolink Group. The whole process of Medox is constructed to optimize on the few ortodihydroxy structured anthocyanins. These molecules are believed to carry the absolute highest biological potential among all anthocyanins.

The molecules in Medox, which is available in a vegetable capsule, are found in bilberries and in blackcurrantboth berry species are needed to give the unique biological structure and effect.

Recent clinical trials have confirmed extensive evidence that has shown many positive effects of anthocyanin consumption in blood lipid levels and prevention of atherosclerosis, said Raul G. Corredor, MD with Medox USA (Miami Beach, FL). “Reduction of the bad’ cholesterol and increase in protective good’ cholesterol blood levels was demonstrated after oral supplementation with the purified presentation of anthocyanins extracted from wild Scandinavian bilberries (vaccinium myrtillus) and blackcurrants (ribes nigrum), which make Medox unique in its ability to provide highly concentrated anthocyanins.”

A 12-week extensive clinical trial (double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled) performed by a team of scientists headed by Yu Quin and WenHua Ling at Sun Yat-Sen University and published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2009, where 320mg of purified anthocyanins or placebo were administered to 120 dyslipidemic patients. Anthocyanins supplementation resulted in a 13.7 percent increase in levels of HDL cholesterol, and a 13.6 percent reduction in levels of LDL cholesterol.

“These results are even more significant when considered in the light that no other dietary or pharmacological modification was implemented (as it can be seen by the opposite deleterious change in blood lipid levels in the placebo group),” said Corredor, “suggesting that the observed effects are fully attributable to anthocyanin (Medox) supplementation.”

Medox is mainly marketed through therapists and other health practitioners as well as through pharmacies. The product is recommended by increasingly more doctors as well as the heart and lung associations in both Norway and Sweden. It has been on the market since 2001, without documenting any possible side effects, and introduced to the US market two years ago.

Green Tea and Caffeine

It is very important to give proper attention to one’s health especially in today’s times. There are individuals who encounter problems with caffeine and as you know, green tea does contain caffeine. You can see a lot of advertisements on television about the positive effects of drinking the said tea but for those individuals who can’t take caffeine, they should be extra careful.

It seems that despite the good things about green tea, the modern community was able to prove that it also has a negative effect. Well, before you decide whether you will continue drinking green tea or not, read on and discover some amazing facts about the intake of green tea.

Some of the harmful effects of caffeine intake in people are heart palpitations, jitters, insomnia, and many other unwanted effects. Because of this realization, manufacturers of green tea are now producing decaffeinated extracts to cater to the needs of those who can’t take caffeine.

In fact, there are now supplements which are also decaffeinated. You should get this type of green tea and supplements especially if you’re not allowed to take beverages with caffeine. Although the caffeine content in green tea is much less than coffee, a person who is extra sensitive to caffeine will experience the same unwanted effects by drinking the tea.

For every eight ounces of tea, the caffeine content is about forty milligrams. Are you already computing your tea intake and the caffeine that you’re getting? The caffeine contents are relatively smaller in green tea and if you can can get away with it without any bad effects, you will also benefit in other health areas.

Even if green tea contains caffeine, it also contains antioxidants like polyphenols which can benefit the body. The antioxidants can help in preventing certain types of cancer, lowers the bad cholesterol in the body, and it can enhance the immune system. The health benefits are truly amazing and this may the very reason why even the ancient Chinese continued to serve green tea at home and to their guests.

The modern world enjoys advanced medical technology and so it is no longer a surprise if scientists and researchers discover the good things about green tea. More and more advanced clinical studies and lab tests are conducted to prove the tea’s healing properties. If you think that the positive effects of green tea outweighs the negative, then there’s no reason for you to stop taking it.

In truth and in fact, caffeine occurs in cocoa beans, tea, and coffee. Cola drinks also contain caffeine because manufacturers use it to enhance the drink’s flavor. Green tea and black tea defintely has caffeine because the plant (Camellia sinensis) itself contain caffeine.

If you’re afraid of the effects of caffeine, you can just purchase the decaffeinated green tea. Even if the tea no longer contains caffeine, it would still taste the same; you will still get the great ‘kick’ in taste when you drink it. Most of the tea’s caffeine are removed in the decaf process. However, some studies show that because of the decaf process, the healing properties are ruined.

If you do have extreme problems with caffeine, then most probably you will go for the decaf green tea. For people who don’t have any problems connected to caffeine, it is advisable to drink the original green tea so that you can benefit from its healing properties.

All in all, the benefits of drinking the original tea preparation outweigh the negative effects. It is up to you whether you drink the decaf green tea or the original one. There’s black, green, and red tea. Green tea is obviously in the middle in terms of caffeine content. So what’s it’s gonna be? Decaf, original, or no tea at all?

Buy Green Tea Online – You Can Find Better Prices and Selection

If you have a good health food store nearby, then you may not need to buy green tea online.

On the other hand, sometimes it can be beneficial to search online when you’re looking to buy green tea.

When You Buy Green Tea Online, You Can Often Find Better Quality Tea

Green tea is one of the newest and most popular health trends today.

Green tea provides a number of benefits for the body, including boosting metabolism to help with weight loss, providing a wealth of antioxidants that can prevent different cancers, and providing catechins that can lead to lower LDL cholesterol levels (yes, the bad cholesterol!) and lower bodyfat.

However, when you buy green tea at your local health food store, in most cases the store can only carry certain products.

After all, they only have so much shelf space, and it is important to stock other healthful items like probiotics and supplements. This means that their stock of green tea is most likely to be quite limited.

If you can buy green tea online, you can shop a multitude of available green tea products. You can research each brand and variety to see which are more natural and contain fewer additional ingredients.

This means that when you buy green tea online, you can often find a much better quality tea product.

Where Does Green Tea Come From?

Quite simply green tea is the same as black tea, except that the black tea leaves have been fermented. In other words, green tea is basically green leaves just harvested from the plant.

Why is this beneficial?

Well, a simple illustration is that you wouldn’t want to eat a salad made from cooked spinach leaves, would you? You prefer fresh spinach because it’s nice and crunchy.

In this example, the fresh spinach contains vitamins and minerals that dissipate during the cooking process. Cooked spinach is still good for you, but it’s not as healthful as fresh spinach.

In the same way, green tea contains flavonols, antioxidants that protect against certain cancers. The tea can slow the aging process and fight wrinkles, boost the immune system and can even reduce blood pressure.

Plus, green tea has been shown to increase metabolism by as much as 4%. For the average-sized person, this computes to burning an extra 80 calories a day, or losing as much as 8 pounds per year!

Start Your Search for Green Tea Online

First, you’ll need to determine what type of tea you plan to purchase when you buy green tea online.

For instance, are you wanting loose green tea leaves? Would you prefer tea that is bagged?

Secondly, there are many types of green tea, from varieties that are unique to Japan, China and Vietnam to those that come from India and Sri Lanka.

Choosing to buy green tea online is much like a treasure hunt, because you don’t know which green tea you’re going to love! Every site will tell you how good the tea is for your health, but it can be difficult to determine which variety is best for you from just a written description.

There are also flavored green tea varieties, where lemon or mint or other aromatic herbs have been added to the tea. Flavored teas are still beneficial. You may find that straight green tea is not something you enjoy, but green tea with jasmine or papaya really sends you to ecstasy!

Finding Your Perfect Green Tea Can Be Like a Treasure Hunt

There are literally hundreds of green tea varieties to choose from. Since you won’t know if you will like the tea variety when you buy green tea online, you might start by just buying something that sounds yummy to you.

Buy in small quantities so if you don’t like this variety after all, you aren’t out a large amount of money.

Keep a small notebook or list when you buy green tea online, so that you know where and what you bought. That way you won’t be tempted by a delicious-sounding description that turned out to be not-so-great more than once!

You could also try different green teas at your local coffee and tea bar. This may help to narrow down the type of tea you like. Maybe you find that green Kukicha tea doesn’t do it for you, but you really enjoy Japanese Sencha tea.

It may take a few purchases before you find the green tea that you love, but eventually you’ll find that perfect variety when you buy green tea online.
